Crime
Robin Lööf’s general criminal practice involves regular appearances in the Crown, Youth and Magistrates’ Courts. His experience to date includes allegations of grievous bodily harm, threats to kill, sexual assault, robbery and money laundering.
EU/international
Robin Lööf is currently instructed as junior counsel on behalf of a former Egyptian minister and his wife in a challenge to the EU-wide freezing of their assets, pending before the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg.
He is currently instructed by the British Transport Police in wasted costs proceedings involving the interpretation of the EU and UK Money Laundering Regulations as they apply to solicitors’ obligations of customer due diligence. The case is currently on its way to the High Court.
A Doctor of European Laws, Robin Lööf is the co-author of a text book on EU criminal law, and has written articles on various aspects of the application of EU and international laws in the fields of substantive criminal law, procedure and evidence.
Robin Lööf has experience working for the European Commission’s Legal Service and for a former First Advocate General of the European Court of Justice.
Money laundering
Robin Lööf is instructed on behalf of both the police and the defence in various proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and the Money Laundering Regulations as well as incidental costs litigation. Instructed by the British Transport Police, he has conducted a cash forfeiture action in which over £100,000 was successfully forfeited against third party opposition. Acting for the defence, Robin Lööf was closely involved in advising an international businessman in a multi-million pound cross-jurisdictional confiscation action.
Teaching
During the 2010-2011 academic year, Robin Lööf supervised Criminal Law at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge. He has given lectures and seminars at the University of Glasgow, the Free University in Brussels and the Università Roma III.
Languages
Fluent French, Swedish and Italian, a good knowledge of German, some Hebrew and Spanish.
