Private Prosecutions: Notable case

Helidon Vuciterni (2014)

Vuciterni, through his company, organised a sophisticated network of servers which, when connected via the Internet to the set top boxes he sold, allowed viewers to receive illegal Premier League football matches via almost every broadcast satellite in the world. On a given Saturday Vuciterni's system enabled box owners to watch almost every 3 pm kick off as well as matches on other days.

Alibhai commented – this is another success in the criminal courts on behalf of owners of broadcast rights under attack from copyright pirates, such as Vuciterni, who make huge sums from the unlawful sale of set top boxes and illegal match feeds.

Vuciterni received a 9 month custodial sentence.
