Police Discipline: Notable case

PC Holden & Houghton (2012)

Successfully defended two officers charged with Dangerous Driving arising from pursuing a Burglar. An important case for police pursuits. Mr Aldred has advised the National Police Federation about a lacuna in the law and has been heavily involved in arguing the need for a legal exemption. Mr Aldred's arguments have been accepted by ACPO who, together with the Police Federation,  have approached the DPP arguing for reform. Mr Aldred spoke at the 2012 National Police Federation Conference on this issue and advises forces nationwide. He also has advised SOCA about the vulnerability of surveillance drivers to prosecutions for Dangerous Driving.
