Eleanor Laws KC and Polly Dyer secured an acquittal in the case of Marcus Reedman, a retired colonel who had been accused of fraudulently claiming £43,470 to fund his children's private education

 

Marcus Reedman, who had in turn, served as a Commanding Officer of the Royal Gurkha Regiment, Head of the National Security Council Secretariat and Deputy Director of the Government’s Covid-19 task force, was charged with fraud by failing to disclose information.

It was alleged that he had dishonestly failed to disclose information that affected his entitlement to a military allowance used to pay for his children’s school fees. The case turned on the interpretation of Army Regulations relating to the payment of allowances.

He was acquitted of fraud by a jury at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday 8 June 2023.
