Philip Stott prosecuted Stuart Abbs at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) for an offence of causing Death by Dangerous Driving, and three offences of Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving.
On 2 July 2017, Mr Abbs drank at least 9 pints of lager and then drove at twice the speed limit at 1.30 am in a road in Croydon, colliding with a group of teenagers walking home with a party. 6 were injured, 3 seriously, and one, Nicole Davis (age 16) was killed instantly. Mr Abbs left the scene before emergency services arrived, and handed himself in to a police station the next day. He pleaded guilty on 20 March 2018 at a Plea and Trial Preparation and was sentenced the same day by HHJ Z Smith to imprisonment for 10 years, the equivalent of a 13.5 year sentence after trial.
