R v Hope & Von Badlo (2015)

Tom Baker, led by Sarah Clarke of Serjeants Inn Chambers, was instructed by the FCA to prosecute Alex Hope for fraud by false representation and for offences contrary to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.  Hope operated a forex trading ponzi scheme defrauding investors of over £5m.  On 9 January 2015, Hope was convicted unanimously of fraud and on 30 January 2015 he was sentenced to 7 years' imprisonment.  His co-defendant, Raj Von Badlo, who pleaded guilty to recklessly making misleading statements, contrary to section 397 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
