R v Wright (2023)

Roger Smart and Tom Orpin-Massey were instructed by the CPS to prosecute a man accused of attempted murder at Kingston Crown Court.

The victim, a drug dealer, had been stabbed a number of times by a masked man with a knife as he had left his home to put some recycling out. The assailant ran off, disposing of the knife in a nearby building site. The victim was adamant that it was Mr Wright who stabbed him, but there was little supporting evidence bar some clues as to a motive: Mr Wright’s partner, a drug addict, had gone missing shortly before the stabbing, and Mr Wright may have blamed the victim, her dealer, for this. Mr Wright was convicted after a two week trial and awaits sentence.
