Charlotte Godber, working with Kyan Pucks and instructed by Alexa Clement of Reeds solicitors, secured the acquittal of Mr C after CCTV footage and cross-examination of the Complainant revealed that Mr C had been falsely accused of a sexual assault. The assault was said to have occurred after an awards ceremony in a central London hotel.
A judge, sitting at Inner London Crown Court, directed the jury to find Mr C not guilty after accepting Charlotte’s legal submission that, at the close of the prosecution case there was no case for Mr C to answer.
Alexa Clement said, “Charlotte picked up the case quite late in the day but got to grips with everything and reassured the client that he was in safe hands. Through Charlotte’s skilful questions in cross examination, and use of CCTV footage, the judge and the jury came to see that the witness had been lying about what had happened. After being directed to find the defendant ‘not guilty’ the jurors each came up to Mr C before leaving court, they shook his hand, some expressed their disbelief that he had ever been charged.”
