Senghin specialises in cases involving allegations of the most serious and complex financial wrongdoing and corruption. His current and recent instructions include:
- Advising 2 suspects in the SFO investigation into the Carlauren Group (press release);
- Acting for the SFO in the prosecution of 2 former Petrofac senior executives charged with bribery in relation to contracts worth over $3 billion (press release);
- Acting for the first defendant in a prosecution brought by the FCA in relation to alleged insider dealing (press release);
- Acting for the SFO in the prosecution of a biodiesel trader charged with fraud by abuse of position and money laundering (press release);
- Defending the director of a forestry investment company in a £30 million fraud prosecution brought by the SFO (press release);
- Defending a pension scheme trustee in a £13 million fraud prosecution brought by The Pensions Regulator (press release);
- Acting for a shipping company in moratorium extension proceedings brought by the NCA relating to more than £10 million in frozen funds.
Senghin has previously acted in some of the largest and highest profile criminal cases:
- He defended the solicitor accused of perverting the course of justice in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster. This was a case requiring 4 years of sustained work for which the investigations were described by the CPS as “the largest in English criminal history” (judgment);
- He represented former Royal Marine Sergeant Alexander Blackman in his application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission and landmark second appeal against conviction for murder which was funded by a campaign run by a national newspaper and spearheaded by the author Frederick Forsyth (Blackman [2017] EWCA Crim 190).
Senghin provides a full service in relation to all aspects of corporate and financial crime:
- He is often instructed to advise on charging decisions, representations against charge, search warrants and other investigatory orders, restraint orders and challenging such decisions, including by judicial review;
- He has substantial trial experience and has appeared in prominent appeals in both divisions of the Court of Appeal;
- He is sought out for his expertise in civil and criminal proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 where large sums are involved, usually for corporate clients;
- He is a specialist in contempt proceedings, where he has acted for corporate claimants and for defendants in a range of cases from breaches of freezing injunctions to the making of false witness statements.
