Susannah Stevens successfully defends police officer who punched and kicked mother in front of her sick child

QEB Hollis Whiteman barrister Susannah Stevens represented a police officer accused of causing actual bodily harm to a woman he was trying to eject from her daughter’s hospital room.

The women, who the court was told sustained more than 40 injuries, had refused to leave her daughter’s room when asked to do so by hospital staff.  They therefore called the police and four officers, including the accused, attended.

The officer, who admitted punching and kicking the mother in his attempts to restrain her, said that he was concerned for the safety of the child.

The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
