Edward Brown QC, Ben Fitzgerald and Philip Stott were instructed by the CPS in the trial of Butler for the murder of his six-year-old daughter Ellie.

Butler was convicted and sentenced to at least 23 years imprisonment. Ellie's mother was convicted of perverting the course of justice and received a sentence of three and a half years. The High Court Judge praised counsel at the end of the trial for their professionalism in this exceptionally sensitive and difficult case.
