Former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya given three-month sentence for perverting the course of justice; David Jeremy QC prosecuted

At the Old Bailey today, Mr Justice Stuart-Smith sentenced Ms Onasanya to three months imprisonment for perverting the course of justice. She will be the first sitting MP to be jailed in 28 years.

She lied to police after she was caught speeding on camera last year and claimed that someone else had been driving the vehicle.

Ms Onasanya had been jointly charged with her brother, Festus Onasanya, who had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of perverting the course of justice to avoid speeding points. Mr Onasanya was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
