Thomas Coke-Smyth represents family members of Cpl Hatfield in two-week inquest into his death

Corporals Matthew Hatfield and Darren Neilson, of the Royal Tank Regiment (RTR), died after an explosion in their Challenger 2 tank at the Castlemartin firing ranges in Pembrokeshire, in June 2017.

Louise Hunt, senior coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, concluded that the main cause for the explosion was that the gun was able to fire when a key component - the bolt vent axial - had been removed.

Mr Coke-Smyth represented Cpl Hatfield’s fiancée, Jill McBride and Abi Hatfield, his separated wife, at the inquest in Solihull.

Mr Coke-Smyth was instructed by Michael Davison, of Hogan Lovells.
