R v Hayes awarded Most Important Case of the Year at the GIR Awards 2025

Announced last night in Washington DC, The GIR (Global Investigations Review) "Case of the Year" for 2025 was awarded to the legal teams involved in securing the landmark UK Supreme Court victory for Tom Hayes and Carlo Palombo, which overturned their decade-old rate-rigging convictions.

The Supreme Court ruled in July that the juries responsible for the convictions of Tom Hayes and Carlo Palombo for rigging global interest rate benchmarks were misdirected. After a decade-long legal battle, the UK’s top court quashed the convictions, opening the door to appeals for other traders convicted over similar conduct.

Adrian Darbishire KC and Tom Doble were instructed by Karen Todner on behalf of Mr Hayes.
