Daniel Appleton convicted of murder. Nicholas Corsellis QC and Kerry Broome instructed for the prosecution.

Daniel Appleton beat 76-year-old Sandy Seagrave to death before killing his wife Amy, 32, outside a house in Crawley Down, West Sussex, on 22 December 2019,

Mr Appleton chased his wife out of their home and attacked her on their driveway.  Ms Seagrave, who was passing by, saw what was happening and tried to intervene but Mr Appleton turned his aggression towards the pensioner and killed her with her own walking stick, He also killed his wife, Amy.

Mr Appleton has admitted killing both victims in the attack but denied murdering them because he contested his mental state at the time of the offences. Jurors found him guilty on the 29th December 2020. He will be sentenced on the 25th January 2021.
