Nicholas Corsellis QC prosecutes Romanian people smuggler given six-year sentence

Andrut Mihai Duma, a truck driver, was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Guildford Crown Court on 26 March. Mr Duma had smuggled 21 Vietnamese nationals into the UK in the trailer of a refrigerated lorry.

In summing up His Honour Judge Rufus Taylor described Mr Duma’s vehicle as ‘the modern equivalent of a slave ship’.

Mr Duma’s arrest was widely covered in the national press, including in the Telegraph, the Guardian, and ITV News. Mr Corsellis’ arguments in court were extensively quoted by the Daily Mail.
