A father has been found guilty of manslaughter in relation to the death of his baby boy, who was fatally injured at home when he was nine weeks old. Jennifer Newcomb of QEB Hollis Whiteman was prosecution counsel, led by James Dawes KC of 2 Harcourt Buildings.
The jury at Inner London Crown Court heard that the baby suffered catastrophic brain damage after an incident at home on 10 June 2022. Expert medical evidence was that injuries sustained were consistent with shaking using force well in excess of that seen in everyday handling of an infant. In evidence, Mohammed Hossain accepted that he had shaken his baby, but said he did so to help him because he thought was not breathing properly. By its verdict, the jury rejected that account.
Mr Hossain was sentenced on 28 November 2025 to nine years' imprisonment.
