R v Mickael Jovanovic - Philip Stott prosecutes the theft of millions of pounds of diamonds from Bond Street

Philip Stott was instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service to prosecute a conspiracy to steal 7 diamonds worth £2.4 million from a high end jewellery company on Bond Street. Posing as a gemmologist for a wealthy Russian purchasers, one of the conspiracy managed to substitute pebbles for the diamonds during a valuation session. The group then made their escape from the United Kingdom within three hours of the theft taking place. Mickael Jovanovic was extradited from Italy and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal – one of the largest offences of its type ever. He was sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years and 8 months at Southwark Crown Court on 29 May 2020.
