Jonathan Polnay KC of QEB Hollis Whiteman prosecuted a trial of the facts at the Old Bailey arising from the fatal stabbing of 66-year-old Anita Mukhey at a bus stop on Edgware Road, north London, on 9 May 2024.
The proceedings concerned Jala Debella, 24, who was found unfit to stand trial and had not entered a plea. The jury was tasked with determining whether he committed the alleged acts.
Opening the case, Jonathan Polnay KC outlined evidence including CCTV footage of the attack and material relating to the defendant's conduct before and after the incident. Ms Mukhey died despite the efforts of emergency services.
The Jury deliberated for less than an hour to reach a finding that Debella had stabbed and killed Mukhey. Sentencing is adjourned for Friday 23 February 2026.
