Teenagers Convicted of Attempted Murder - Roger Smart for the Prosecution

Roger Smart of QEB Hollis Whiteman successfully prosecuted two boys, aged 15 and 14 at the time of the offence, at the Central Criminal Court for the attempted murder of a 23-year-old man in the early hours of 19 August 2024 on Upper Clapton Road.

The youths, wearing face coverings to conceal their identities, chased the victim into a nearby store where they set upon him with a large machete and a kitchen knife. The victim was cornered behind the counter when the assault took place. The machete was brought down on him approximately 25 times, and the kitchen knife was used multiple times until it was dropped and could not be retrieved by one of the attackers.

The victim sustained serious injuries, which would have been significantly worse had he not managed to use a footstool to shield his torso during the attack.

Sentencing was adjourned to 17 October 2025 pending the preparation of pre-sentence reports (PSRs).

Roger Smart was instructed by David Siebler of the CPS.
