R v O (2020)

Charlotte Godber secured the acquittal of a young man charged with perverting the course of public justice.

The case involved a series of s.172 Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIPs) sent first to a hire company, then to the defendant’s mother, and then on to the defendant.

Mr O was alleged to have filled out the NIP form with the details of someone he knew was not driving the car at the time. Mr O was acquitted by a unanimous not guilty verdict in less than an hour.
