R v Shakil (2017)

Sean Larkin QC prosecuted a mother who travelled with her toddler son to Syria, where she then joined the so-called Islamic State.

A woman broadcast pro-ISIS material before travelling to Syria with her toddler to join ISIS from where she continued to use social media. After a period of a few months she returned to UK and was arrested.

This case concerned complex issues of belonging to a proscribed organisation, and was one of first cases of its kind.
