In the Inquest touching upon the death of patient X (2019)

Paul Wakerley represented a general practitioner whose practice had prescribed sedative medicines to patient X whilst she was the occupant of a care home.

The Coroner concluded that Ms Tighe died as a result of vascular dementia and old-age. A narrative concern was expressed over the sedative medicines. The Coroner ultimately did not express overt criticism of the general practitioner’s role.

The Coroner’s report can be found here.

Counsel was instructed by Nicholas Tennant of the Medical Defence Union.
