28-Year Sentence Handed Down in Attempted Murder Case Prosecuted by Roger Smart of QEB Hollis Whiteman

On 13 September 2025, at Croydon Crown Court, Pierre Eugene was sentenced to an extended sentence of 28 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder of Mr Omar Surgeon, following a jury trial.

Eugene, 35, carried out a premeditated knife attack at Mr Surgeon’s home in March 2024. The victim suffered a serious stab wound to the neck and during the course of being treated by HEMS medical staff went into cardiac arrest, requiring emergency surgery. Due to the swift actions of neighbours, police, and medical teams, his life was saved.

The court heard how Eugene had travelled to the scene armed with a knife, disguised his appearance, and launched a full-force unprovoked attack on the unsuspecting victim with the intention of killing him.

In sentencing, the judge imposed a custodial term of 24 years with a four-year extended licence period, noting Eugene’s lack of remorse and the lasting impact on the victim.

Roger Smart of QEB Hollis Whiteman prosecuted the case.
