Julian Evans KC and Karen Robinson KC prosecuted the case of Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru, who were sentenced at Oxford Crown Court to 17 years’ imprisonment each for the manslaughter of two men and offences arising from the drugging of two further victims.
Between August 2024 and July 2025, Mihai and Dumitru targeted men seeking sexual services through a classified online platform advertising escort services. Mihai posed as a sex worker and arranged to meet the victims at their homes. While Dumitru waited nearby in a car, Mihai would enter the property alone to meet the victims. The victims were given drinks containing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a substance which causes unconsciousness.
Once the men were incapacitated, property including watches, jewellery, cash and other personal possessions were stolen. Two of the victims, Malcolm King, aged 80, and Gary Mouat, 36, died following the administration of the drug. Two further men survived.
The court heard that the offending involved a deliberate and repeated pattern of targeting and incapacitating victims for financial gain.
