Philip Evans KC and Philip McGhee Prosecute Kara Alexander - Convicted of the Murder of Her Children

Following a trial at the Old Bailey, Kara Alexander, 47, was found guilty of two counts of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years and 252 days. The case was prosecuted by Philip Evans KC and Philip McGhee of QEB Hollis Whiteman.

The court heard that Alexander was in a cannabis-induced psychotic state when she drowned her two sons, Marley Thomas, 5, and Elijah Thomas, 2, at their home in Dagenham in December 2022.

At the sentencing of Alexander, it was noted by the judge that both children were in their pyjamas, and one was still wearing a nappy when the deliberate acts occurred. The children’s bodies were discovered in their shared bunk bed and post-mortem examinations confirmed the cause of death for both children was drowning.
