Alex Mullen appeared on behalf of the Teaching Regulation Agency in the case against William Garwood, a Teacher, accused of offensive and discriminatory language against Ukrainian people and members of gay and transgender community.
William Garwood, a supply teacher, was alleged to have made comments to year 11 students in a history lesson having been asked whether there were any just wars.
Mr Garwood embarked on a lengthy monologue in which he was found to have described Ukrainians as Nazis, told the students Ukrainians were evil and satanist and were funded 'by the banks and the billionaires'. The Teacher went on to make a comment justifying the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He also told the students that 'gay and transgender people are mentally ill', and that billionaires had caused this, too.
The Panel agreed with Alex's submissions that the comments were inappropriate and discriminatory, and failed to demonstrate respect and tolerance for those with different beliefs.
The Panel further agreed with Alex's submissions that the Teacher had shown a lack of insight, and that allowing Mr Garwood to continue his teaching career would put students at risk and seriously damage public confidence in the teaching profession.
The Panel took the course suggested in Alex's arguments, namely to recommend a Prohibition Order to the Secretary of State.
The Decision Maker on behalf of the Secretary of State also agreed, making the Order sought.
