Anne Whyte KC and Karen Robinson prosecute Peter Sayle, a father accused of murdering his 6-week-old child. Huxley Sayle collapsed suddenly at this home address in 2022 whilst in the sole care of the defendant. He had suffered catastrophic head injuries in addition internal injuries to his spine and eyes and fractured ribs. He died 4 weeks later having never regained consciousness.

The case involved multi-disciplinary expert evidence of a complex nature including neuropathology, paediatric neuroradiology, ophthalmology, osteoarticular pathology and paediatrics. The defence had instructed an overseas osteoarticular (bone) pathologist, whose evidence was undermined to such an extent, that the defendant pleaded guilty to manslaughter during the second week of his trial.

He was sentenced by Bryan J in Preston Crown Court to 9 years and 11 months.
