Eleanor Laws KC, assisted by Fraser Coxhill, both of QEB Hollis Whiteman, have completed an independent review of the Jersey criminal justice system examining the handling of domestic abuse, rape and serious sexual offences. The review was commissioned to determine whether current arrangements deliver the best possible outcomes for victims, suspects, defendants and the wider interests of justice.
Working closely with stakeholders from across the criminal justice system, Eleanor Laws KC co-developed a series of practical solutions designed to improve the experience of victims while safeguarding the rights of suspects and potential defendants. These measures will be trialled over a one-year review period, allowing their efficacy to be carefully evaluated. A final report will then be published, setting out the improvements implemented during the review and highlighting examples of existing good practice within the system.
