HMRC v DC (2016)

Defence of a renovator of luxury properties at all levels to the Court of Appeal where his sentence for tax evasion was reduced from three to two years' imprisonment.  DC had previously pleaded guilty to evading the VAT and income tax liability on contracts in Paris and London worth £1.4m. The underlying case had involved complex issues of quantum, arising from the conflict between UK and French tax laws and other regulations relating to work on listed properties.  Appeared alone, instructed by BCL Burton Copeland (Southwark Crown Court).
