Inquest into the death of Tracy Shelvey (2015)

Anne Whyte QC acted for the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police in an Article 2 inquest. Ms Shelvey threw herself off a public carpark roof after the man that she had accused of rape was acquitted in Crown Court proceedings.

Ms Shelvey was extremely vulnerable and had a complex history of contact with various state agencies including mental health agencies, drug dependency, police and social services. The inquest investigated multi-agency communications and policy, as well as the quality of police attendance at the carpark where officers and members of the public attempted to talk Ms Shelvey out of committing suicide.

Counsel was instructed by Elena Pagano.
