Jonathan Polnay KC is prosecuting Joshua Kerry, 28, who is charged with the murder of former Conservative minister and Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe, and with engaging in conduct in preparation of acts of terrorism.
Ms Widdecombe, 78, died at her home in Haytor, Devon, on 8 July 2026. The prosecution alleges that Mr Kerry travelled approximately 265 miles from his home in Rotherham to her property, where he struck her repeatedly with a hammer.
Mr Kerry is also accused of preparing acts of terrorism between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026, including researching the addresses of prominent political figures and attempting to gain entry to the south London home of Nigel Farage in April 2025.
Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb granted the prosecution's application for the charges to be tried together. Mr Kerry, who is expected to contest the allegations, was remanded in custody.
A plea and case management hearing is scheduled for 29 January 2027, with the trial due to begin on 8 June 2027.
Jonathan was instructed by the CPS Counter Terrorism Division.
