Nicholas Corsellis KC Prosecutes Rape Case at Birmingham Crown Court

Sheraz Malik, 28, has been convicted of two counts of rape following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court concerning an attack on an 18-year-old woman in Nottinghamshire.

Nicholas Corsellis KC of QEB Hollis Whiteman led the prosecution. The jury heard that the complainant had been drinking at Sutton Lawn Park in Sutton-in-Ashfield in June 2025 and was left alone with a group of men unknown to her. The prosecution case was that she was assaulted by one man and subsequently raped by Malik in a secluded area of the park.

Malik denied the allegations and claimed the sexual activity was consensual. The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on two counts of rape and acquitted him on a third count.

The court has adjourned the matter to 6 February 2026, when a date for sentencing will be fixed.

Nicholas Corsellis KC was instructed by CPS East Midlands.
