Man Convicted in Notting Hill Carnival Murder Case - QEB Hollis Whiteman Barristers Were Involved.

Shakeil Thibou, 20, has been convicted of the murder of Cher Maximen, 32, during the Notting Hill Carnival on 25 August 2024. The case involved barristers of QEB Hollis Whiteman: Edward Brown KC, Philip McGhee, Philip Evans KC and Polly Dyer.

Ms Maximen was stabbed while attending the carnival with her three-year-old daughter. She had attempted to intervene in a fight when Thibou attacked her with a zombie knife, inflicting a 12cm-deep wound. She died in hospital six days later.

The trial took place at the Old Bailey, where the jury found Thibou guilty of murder. His brothers, Sheldon Thibou, 25, and Shaeim Thibou, 22, were also convicted. Sheldon Thibou was found guilty of violent disorder and assaulting a police officer. Shaeim Thibou was also convicted for assaulting a police officer.

Barristers from QEB Hollis Whiteman appeared on both sides of the case. Edward Brown KC and Philip McGhee of QEB Hollis Whiteman acted for the prosecution, while Philip Evans KC and Polly Dyer of QEB Hollis Whiteman represented the defence.  

The sentencing is set to be televised on Friday 16 May 2025.
