Philip Stott prosecutes 'utterly wicked, perverse and depraved' nursery worker for child sex offences in 'one of the worst cases of its kind'

On 12 February 2026 at the Crown Court at Wood Green, former primary school and nursery worker Vincent Chan was sentenced for a total of 56 counts of assaulting children aged under 13 by penetration, sexually assaulting children, taking indecent images of children, outraging public decency and voyeurism. The offences were committed between 2011 and 2024 whilst he was working at St Marys CofE Primary School, Finchley and the now closed Bright Horizons nursery in Finchley Road, West Hampstead, and took place at those education institutions and elsewhere.

They were committed against a wide range of women and girls ranging in ages from 2-4 through to over 70 years old. Mr Chan was sentenced by the Recorder of Haringey, HHJ Dodd KC, to an extended sentence of 26 years in respect of the most serious offences, consisting of 18 years custodial portion and 8 years extended licence period, along with concurrent determinate sentences for the other offences.

Philip Stott prosecuted the matter, instructed by the Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service.
