R v Choudhury (2016)

Linda Strudwick defends a mentally ill dentist who stabbed a Muslim healer after the defendant was told he was possessed by evil spirits (Jinns).

Linda defends a dentist charged with murder. The dentist was mentally unwell and consulted a Muslim  healer in order that verses of the Quran could be used as prayers to be said over him. The healer told him that he was possessed by evil spirits (jinns). His mental health deteriorated until he was in a state where he returned to the healer and stabbed him to death.  The court made a hospitalisation order under the Mental Health Act without time limit.  (Central Criminal Court)
