R v Maxim (2016)

Ben FitzGerald's  client was an exotic dancer at Stringfellows Nightclub, who admitted to evading income tax over a five-year period of in excess of £100,000.

Ben coordinated the careful preparation of her mitigation by ensuring that all of her tax affairs past and present were put in order and by obtaining evidence to indicate that despite Ms Maxim being the only individual prosecuted by HMRC, tax evasion was endemic amongst those working at the club. Despite unfavourable Sentencing Guidelines, he successfully persuaded the Judge to pass a suspended sentence. (Southwark Crown Court).
