Philip Evans QC led Tim Naylor in the prosecution of Dale Pike for the manslaughter by gross negligence of Gareth Pugh.
Pike employed Pugh to retrieve golf balls from a lake at a golf course near Newport. Pugh was not a trained diver and the safety measures employed were inadequate as a result of which Gareth Pugh drowned in the lake.
Pike pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment.
