PC L (Thames Valley)

An Officer conducting a hospital watch allowed a prisoner to escape from hospital.

There were multiple allegations including incorrect application of handcuffs, allowing the use of a blanket (originally permitted by the Custody Sargeant) and inattention whilst looking at mobile telephone/TV. Allegations compounded by the suggestion of abusive language towards a senior officer in the lead up to the hearing.

Paul Wakerley succeeded in minimising the findings and ultimately avoiding dismissal. Successfully argued for parts of the case to be dealt with in private to avoid any reporting of certain sensitive material.

Paul Wakerley was instructed by Hempsons.
