Paul Wakerley assisted Julian Evans KC, both of QEB Hollis Whiteman, prosecuting the case in which Amy Pugh, 34, of Wolverhampton, was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years for the murder of her husband, Kyle Pugh.
The court heard how, in March 2022, Pugh fatally injured Mr Pugh during an argument at her home in Newport, Shropshire. She later attempted to mislead emergency services by claiming that his injuries were the result of his own attempt to end his life. She maintained her innocence throughout trial.
Sentencing, Her Honour Judge Montgomery KC described Pugh’s conduct as “cynical and cruel” and noted the additional distress caused to Mr Pugh’s family.
