Inquest into the Death of NM (2018)

Selva Ramasamy QC represented a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology in this inquiry into the death of a mother and baby in a maternity unit.

The case involved a very rare presentation (a concealed abruption at 22 weeks) which the experts had only encountered once in over 50 years of shared experience.  They agreed the case presented unique difficulties for the entire clinical team.

After a two week hearing, the Coroner rejected a finding of neglect and concluded that death was by natural causes with missed opportunities to provide care.
